Eating and Drinking in Prague

Prague is a wonderful city to dine in. You can be surrounded by some of the most fantastic urban scenery in the world and still manage to eat (and drink) at a very reasonable price.

Many visitors make the mistake of sticking to the central sites when looking to eat. Inevitably, this means that tourists end up paying more, often for lower quality food. While you can, of course, stick to eating KFC, McDonalds and the rest, we'd recommend trying out some local cuisine.

Our Tip: Try out the brilliant Cafe Louvre as a place to eat. This restuarant is easy to find (its located on the same street as Tescos!), has a brilliant history and setting plus...best of all...the food is excellent and amazingly priced by Western European standards.

The Czech diet is very much orientated towards meat-eating (indeed, until recently, vegetarians might struggle in Prague). One local delicacy that you'll see plenty of is the dumpling, a tasty alternative as an accompaniment to a main meal.

Drinking in Prague

You won't find it difficult to drink in Prague! Beer, in particular, is plentiful and available at very low prices. Local brews include Budvar and Staropramen, both of which are now widely available outside the Czech Republic. Our personal favourite is Pilsner Urquell.

Our Tip: If you want to taste great beer in Prague then try one of the city's beer halls. They brew on site at U Flaku. Alternatively, the Staropramen Brewery (a modern establishment) is 5 minutes walk from Andel metro station and has an excellent bar/restaurant.

The local spirit, Becherovka, needs to be tasted to be believed!
