Accommodation in Vilnius
There are a large number of options for those wanting accommodation in Vilnius and what you choose will largely be down to personal choice.
You can obviously choose to book accommodation as part of a package, which in a sense may be the easiest solution. Such packages can be booked online with companies based in the UK, making the whole process very straightforward. Though you might expect to pay higher prices by booking this type of holiday deal, you will find that it is possible to find some real bargains.
An alternative approach is to book a cheap flight independently of the accommodation. Again, booking flights online means that you can shop around and get the best possible deal for your flight to Vilnius. You can then look to book accommodation online, either via a Lithuanian based travel agency or direct.
Many hotels will either allow you to book direct or else offer such an option via online travel agents, making them very accessible. It’s always worth looking out for hotel reviews to see what previous visitors have made of the facilities. Be aware, of course, that different people will have different expectations of holiday accommodation. You can also use the internet to find out plenty of specific details about potential hotels – such as its location – always worth checking where it is on a map and trying to find out about that particular district or area of a city.
If you’re booking your accommodation in Vilnius independently but don’t want to stay in a hotel then you’ll probably be looking at a private apartment. These can work out considerably cheaper, though arrangements may well be rather more informal. You should note, for instance, that it might not be unusual for you to be expected to pay the owner in cash – sometimes in US dollars. You just need to be on your guard and be slightly wary. Take a common sense approach.
Finally, there are websites where people offer accommodation exchanges. This will generally involve local Lithuanians offering to allow you to stay in their own homes. In return, you’re expected to offer other tourists the option to stay in your own home. This type of exchange won’t be to everybody’s taste but is something that you might consider if you’re on a tight budget.
