Finding Hotels in Riga
Riga’s position as the capital of one of the former states of the Soviet Union (Latvia) makes some visitors believe that finding hotels in Riga will be a difficult task. Fortunately, this need not be the case these days.
The general standard of hotels in the Latvian capital has been increasing, largely driven by the similar increase seen in the number of tourists in recent years. There are also a number of websites available that will allow you to directly book hotels in Riga, making things much easier than was the case in the relatively recent past.
The quality of hotels can vary, with the 5 star Hotel de Rome having established a reputation for itself as possibly Riga’s finest. Its situation, in the heart of the old town, has certainly helped it to become a favourite with many visitors. The facilities on offer are comparable with hotels in any other major European city and include a sauna, medical centre, airport transfers and a secure, guarded parking lot.
You should also note, however, that prices are relatively high. While the prices for some items in Riga remain far behind what you’d expect in other European capital cities, hotel rates are fast catching up.
If your budget doesn’t allow for the luxury of the Hotel de Rome then there are plenty of other alternatives. The 4 star Riga Hotel, also located within Old Riga, is well placed for the National Opera House and also offers both cable television and internet connections.
Similarly, the Konventa Seta Hotel offers high standards. Literally translated into English, its name means Convent Court and its buildings are made up of a neatly retained medieval complex. The interestingly name OK Hotel is a 3 star hotel that is within 15 minutes walk of the old heart of the city.
You’ll find it easy to get detailed information online about all of the above hotels and may even be fortunate enough to find reviews by other tourists who have stayed at these locations. Finding hotels in Riga is essentially no different from looking for places to stay elsewhere – shop around to get the best prices and read up as much as you can before making your choice and booking.
