Florida Theme Parks
One of the main things that makes Florida attractive to visitors is the amount of Florida theme parks, and the diversity of these. There really is something for everyone. Although many of the theme parks are centred in and around the Orlando area, there are many others spread throughout the Sunshine State.
The main theme park in Florida has to be Walt Disney World. This however is more than just one park, rather it is a number of parks all linked by Disney transportation (although each can be reached independently) which all have a distinct individual theme whilst running with Disney precision and organization. The Magic Kingdom is a must see for the young, and the young at heart alike! With rides that are mainly suitable for little people, and shows that will entertain everyone, Mickey and friends at the Magic Kingdom are there to bring the child back in all who visit. From there, a trip to Epcot brings the world to your feet - with a taste of adventure and culture from a number of cities around the world. Don't forget to visit Future World - see what the future world may hold. The Animal Kingdom brings the world of animals to life whilst MGM Studios does the same for the Disney movies (plus adds a dash of excitement with rides such as the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror). Add to this a mix of water parks such as Blizzard Beach and there's something at WDW for everyone to enjoy.
Outside of Disney Orlando also hosts Seaworld and Discovery Cove where you can get up close and personal to the mammals and birds native to the area, and Universal Studios for those who like more thrills and spills than those offered by Disney. A taste of Southern old world charm can be experienced at the Cypress Gardens, whilst for something completely different take a visit to the Holy Land Experience where the mission is to show what life was like during the time of Christ and to illustrate the message of the bible.
Leaving the Orlando area behind, other theme parks to be found in Florida are Weeki Wachee Springs where you can catch the Mermaid show and kids can even enrol in Mermaid/Merman camp! Take a trip back to nature in the Silver Springs glass bottomed boats; or enjoy the beauty (and excitement) of the Busch Gardens. Although not quite a theme "park" as such, NASA's Cape Canaveral shouldn't be missed by anyone with a passion for space.
There's such a lot of diversity within the various Florida theme parks, and each park has it's own schedule of events so be sure to check out the individual websites for any park you are interested in visiting so that you have up-to-the-minute opening hours and show times.
