Flybe Sponsor Southampton Football Club
Flybe, one of the UK's leading budget airlines has announced its intention to sponsor Southampton Football Club.
The deal made public today (24 April 2006) will see Flybe sponsor the Championship side for 3 years. Given that the airline have been operating from Southampton Airport for some time now, analysts see this as an obvious move for increasing the company's visibility in the local area, plus on a national scale.
The move could also be a good one for fans of the team, with Flybe offering ticket giveaways at all games played by the Saints at their home stadium in the St Marys district of the city.
The airline currently sponsor a number of other football teams, including both Exeter City and Birmingham City.
In a statement, Simon Lilley (the Marketing Director of Flybe) said: "This is such an exciting deal for us and we're proud to be behind a club with such huge potential. The people in Southampton have been extremely supportive of Flybe so we're pleased we can give something back to the community."
He went on to say that they look forward to seeing "Saints fly up the League table!".
The airline currently fly 27 domestic and European routes from Southampton Airport.
