Holiday Essentials
Do you ever find yourself starting your holiday by wondering about what you've forgotten to pack? Don't
worry - you're not alone!
They say that holidays are the third most stressful event during most people's lives (behind moving
home and getting married). Things are so hectic in the build-up to a holiday that it can be difficult
to keep track of the various documents that you need, items that you want to pack and other elements
that need arranging before you deport.
There is a solution though - the key is to be organised! Sound simple? Fortunately, it can be. Let's
take a look at how to get organised before making a trip.
The first thing that I like to do is to make a list of the various items that I need to cover. That
way, you can simply tick off each item on the list as you deal with it - you then know for sure that
you've not forgotten anything important.
Here's the basic list that I use when planning a trip:
Passport/Visa
Flight Details and Confirmation
Tickets
Accommodation Details and Confirmation - including directions
Credit Cards/Travellers' Cheques/Currency
Car Hire details
Driving Licence
Travel Insurance
Health Insurance Card (if travelling within Europe)
Lock up the house - including all windows
Throw away any food that will not keep
Ask my neighbours to keep an eye on the house while I'm away
Unplug all appliances (except fridge/freezer)
Then I create a separate list of things to pack:
Pack camera/mobile phone/MP3 player in hand luggage
Glasses/contact lenses
Tablets or medication
Books
Sweets for the flight
Suntan lotion
After sun
Phrasebook
Guidebooks
Travel Plugs/Adaptors
Toiletries
I would then list all of the clothes that I wish to take on a separate list and tick everything off as
I pack it in my case. All sound a bit too detailed? Maybe it does at first but you'll soon realise that
it can bring you peace of mind when travelling. After all, holiday are meant to be fun!
Let's take a closer look at the various holiday documents that you'll need to remember.
