Life In Orlando

One of the things that tourists often wonder about but seldom get to see is how it is to live in a place which has such a fluctuating population. Life in Orlando must be very interesting for the residents who live there. Many of them will be employed either permanently or on a seasonal basis at one or other of the main tourist attractions. Many others will be similarly employed in the vast service industry of the city, in catering or housekeeping capacities.

Located in Florida, in the south-east part of the United States, Orlando is primarily a place for tourists. The city has evolved steadily since the Magic Kingdom first opened its gates in the 1960s, with numerous other theme parks - including the vast expansion of Walt Disney World itself - opening and beckoning the tourist industry to come visit.

Residents in Orlando enjoy not only local access to the theme parks that the rest of the world plan all year to visit, but they also have good weather year round (although there is quite a lot of rainfall (around 49inches annually!). The people who live there benefit from living in a State where there is no state income tax, and moderate living expenses. The downside of living in Orlando is that although the attractions are open year round, and there are visitors at all times of the year, there are months which are low on tourist numbers and so some people do not have work during these periods. Hotel staff however may not be quite so affected as Orlando is one of the top cities in America for hosting conventions. Serviced by two international airports and both the Amtrak rail and Greyhound bus systems, those who live in Orlando also have easy access to the rest of the State, the US and the world!

Life in Orlando is generally good. With a good climate (barring the September hurricane season when things can be a little wet if not windy!), fair employment prospects especially on a seasonal basis, affordable housing, and more than a little choice of recreational activities for after work hours, there's a lot to be said for being a resident in this city of transient tourists.
