New York Nightlife

As you can imagine with a nickname of "the city that never sleeps", New York nightlife is varied and caters for all age groups and interests. Whether you are a single person looking for a partner, or a couple seeking romance, New York City will have something for you to do once darkness falls and the various day time tourist attractions close.

Broadway is usually one of the biggest pulls for those seeking a night out during their stay in New York. Whether it's one of the big musicals that have been established for many years and you have long since dreamt of seeing, or whether you prefer a new play, Broadway offers a great variety of entertainment. Ticket prices aren't cheap but if you are prepared to stand at one of the discount outlets on the day of the show, when cancellation and unsold tickets are available for purchase at approximately half price, you could get a bargain. You can also gamble at the theatre that there will be cancellations just before the show if you won't be too disappointed at not getting in should all ticket holders turn up!

Nightclubs and bars are more popular with younger tourists, especially singles. There's one to suit everyone, whether you want the coolest music, the hottest fashion, or the opportunity to spot celebrities, you'll find a club in New York City. One thing to keep in mind is that most bars and clubs have a cover charge which may be as much as the cost of a few overpriced drinks, and some of them also have a dress code so checking with either the venue direct, or with your hotel desk clerk earlier in the day could make the difference between getting into the club or not. Also keep in mind that the most popular places will probably mean you standing in line for quite some time just to gain entry into the club! Remember to carry ID with your age or date of birth clearly shown in case you are "carded" by the door or bar staff.

For those looking for a little romance, a moonlit dinner cruise could be the perfect way of celebrating a special occasion. Alternatively how about supper in one of New York's finest restaurants followed by a Broadway show and then a horse and carriage ride around Central Park to round off the evening!

If doing the unusual is more your scene, then a cycle tour such as the Brooklyn Bridge and Skyline at Twilight Bike Tour hosted by Bike the Big Apple (http://www.bikethebigapple.com) could create memories of New York that you'll never forget! Starting in daylight and cycling past many of New York's famous landmarks, this tour operates only on Sundays and provides a real alternative way of seeing the City.

New York nightlife has something for everyone. The main problems are going to be deciding which things you really want to do during your visit, and then finding the energy after your day's activities so as not to waste one moment in this City of endless opportunities.
