Orlando Airports

One of the most dreaded parts of arriving at any new destination is in not knowing the procedure at the arrivals airport, and Orlando airports are no different. Most airports have a similar arrivals procedure of deplaning, then immigration procedures (passport control), followed by baggage retrieval and then finally onto customs before you allowed access into the country of your destination. There are some airports which are larger and have different terminals, and others which have a slightly different way of doing things however and Orlando International Airport is one of these! After a long transatlantic flight, being forewarned of the procedure will help to make you feel more at ease once you leave the relative safety of the aircraft and its crew.

Upon arrival at Orlando International Airport you will be asked to produce your passport at immigration control. Anyone requiring a visa to enter the USA will also be required to produce one at this time. From here you will collect your luggage from the baggage retrieval area (don't be surprised to see security personnel with dogs around the luggage checking for illegal substances etc). Once you have your baggage you then pass through customs. Then things take a slightly different route to what most people expect.

Orlando International Airport is in two parts connected via a AGT (train) system. Once you clear customs, your luggage will then be taken off you once again, and placed back into the airport's system, whilst you journey to the Main Terminal on the train. Having made this journey lasting just over a minute, you then need to wait once again to collect your luggage from the baggage claim in the Main Terminal arrivals area - make sure you read the signs to find out which baggage claim your flight luggage has been placed on! This time, once you have collected the luggage, you are free to leave the airport and your vacation can really start.

There are two main Orlando airports however, and depending on your airline, it is possible you will arrive at Sanford International Airport which is located 18 miles out of Orlando. Here you will find a smaller airport with less of the stress of the multi-baggage reclaim experienced at the larger Orlando International Airport. Whichever airport you arrive at, there will be staff on hand to help guild you through the process however, so just listen to what the personnel tell you, and watch the signs within the airport terminal and things will be fine.
