People in Dumfries
Dumfries and Galloway has its fair share of 'celebraties' that visited or even lived in the area. You may have heard of some of them, here is a list of some famous, and not so famous Dumfries and Galloway people:
J M Barrie: James Matthew Barrie (1860-1937), playwright and novelist whose best known play was Peter Pan, was first presented in 1904.
Robert Burns: Dumfries is the centre for anything to do with this great poet. He is so very well known, there is little I can add, aside from that there is a 'Burns Trail' for you to follow and see the sights where he worked and visited.
David Coutlard: A modern day hero of the motor car. Although now prefering Monte Carlo to his native village of Twynholm, which lies to the West of Dumfries.
Henry Duncan: We all like our money, and belive it or not, banking as we know it, started right here in Dumfries and Galloway by Dr H Duncan who set up the 'Savings Bank'. It went on to be known as the 'TSB' and is now part of the LloydsTSB group.
John Paul Jones: This was a real surprise to me. But John Paul Jones is regarded as the grandfather of the American navy!
The Wicker Man: There are so many famous people from this beautiful part of Scotland and this is just a short list of the more popularly known ones. However, it was the Wicker Man which was filmed in the Kirkudbright area, brought stars of the silver screen to the area.
