Riga Airport
International tourism has grown into such a massive industry that many of the world’s airports have similar check-in requirements. At Riga Airport most of the regulations may well be familiar to those of you that travel regularly.
For all flights, check-in is carried out by the staff of Riga Airport. The time that you are required to check-in will largely depend on the requirements of the individual airline and the number of passengers embarking on that particular flight. The beginning of check-in is usually 2 hours before your flight (but may be less in some circumstances).
If you’re flying by British Airways or KLM then you’ll find that it’s possible to check-in using the internet. This gives passengers the advantage of choosing their own seats and avoiding queuing at the airport. It’s also advantageous for the airport authorities, cutting down on the number of passengers to be checked in manually.
Check-in ends half an hour before your flight departs. It’s important that you arrive at the airport on time as failure to arrive before this time can result in you being refused access to the aircraft. Similarly, you’ll need to listen out for airport announcements to ensure that you board the airline at the correct time.
Riga Airport, like many others around the globe, relies heavily on the punctuality of passengers. Failing to have the aeroplane fully boarded on time does result in aircraft losing their take-off or landing slots. This can obviously lead to delays for passengers, while also increasing the costs involved for the airline.
In general, baggage limits that apply on airlines are set at 20kg (plus hand baggage) for economy class, 30kg (plus hand baggage) for business class and 40kg (plus hand baggage) for first class. These limits can vary – both Easyjet and Ryanair, for example, set their own limits. You should always check with your airline before flying.
The USA, Canada and some other countries do have alternative limits, which are set at 2 items of luggage per person, totalling no more than 32kg. Again, always check with your airline before setting off for the airport.
