Nestled in the Galloway hills and off the beaten track, Dumfries offers a variety of accommodation at a price to suit all purses. From camping in the country, caravans by the sea, to inns and hotels in the towns, all very competively priced.

Cabins and Caravans: Now although I have no need to stay in a cabin or static caravan, I do visit a small beach, complete with a lighthouse, that has a large holiday park right next to it. This is Southerness and it is not very far from Dumfries and is on the way to Dalbeattie. Here is the link to this four star holiday park Parkdean Holidays. Another place I visit is Loch Ken, the largest body of inland water in the area and offers a variety of things to do from canoeing to sailing to waterskiing. The Loch Ken Marina has a good choice, as does Galloway Sailing Centre for those who want a more active holiday.

Hotels and B & B's: Like the previous two headings, there are numerous hotels in Dumfries to choose from and the obvious pointer for me to give out is that "Visit Scotland" would be the people to speak to about these. They have an office in Dumfries, down by the river Nith. Dumfries has both a Travel Inn and a Travel Lodge on the outskirts of town and in the centre itself are numerious B&B's and hotels. The hotel I see most frequently is called the Station hotel. Why? Because it is at the railway station! A grand building, and well known for its good food.
