Places to Stay in Winchester
Winchester is, it must be said, a relatively expensive place to spend time. The cost of most things is on a par with London and accommodation is no exception.
You'll find that Winchester has a selection of hotels, which are mainly at the top end of the range. Here's a sample of a few of them:
The Wessex Hotel: Located right in the heart of the city, there are some fantastic views of the cathedral from this hotel. The hotel itself has a 4-star AA rating at the time of writing - the only thing letting it down is the exterior of the building, which can certainly not be described as picturesque.
The Winchester Royal Hotel: Converted to a hotel in the 19th century, the building was originally constructed some 300 years earlier. Based in St Peter Street, this offers an ideal location for those looking to explore Winchester.
The Wykeham Arms Hotel: As you might guess from the name, this hotel doubles as an upmarket pub, offering some of the finest food in the city. Based on Kingsgate Street and with 14 rooms, the Wykeham is located close to Winchester College and the Cathedral.
