UK Hotels are too expensive
It's something that many people have known for years and has now been backed up: holidays in the UK are just too expensive. Although Gordon Brown, on becoming Prime Minister, made a very public show of taking his holiday in the UK, it seems that many Britons are looking abroad for their budget holiday deals.
In a blow to the UK tourist industry, the publishers of the 2008 Good Hotel Guide have noted that UK hotels are more expensive than comparable hotels elsewhere in Europe. Given that the UK weather does not reach the desirable levels of some European resorts, it's little surprise that people are choosing to travel abroad for their holidays.
According to the figures, the average cost of an overnight hotel stay in the UK, including dinner for two with wine, works out at more than £200. Such high prices might be acceptable if the hotels were of a particularly good standard, but this does not seem to be the case.
The trend towards people choosing to travel abroad more often continues, with more and more of us choosing to shun the UK in favour of warmer weather, better quality accommodation and cheaper prices.
